Hands On
Therapeutic Yoga
Therapeutic Yoga for Lasting Recovery
Does chronic pain or injury frustrate your
return to yoga?
Are you looking for a therapeutic exercise
alternative to gym workouts?
Therapeutic Yoga adapts asanas (poses) and asana
sequences to suit your individual therapeutic needs.
Its practise optimizes the flow of subtle energies throughout
the body, invigorating you and enhancing your constitutional
health.
Your therapeutic yoga class will blend deeply held, adapted
asanas with focused breathwork and guided visualization to
aid you in developing deeper awareness of your body during its
therapeutic journey.
Prior to practise, your organ health, musculoskeletal
imbalances and blocks to flexibility will be assessed in order to
select the precise asanas or adaptations of asanas that work
best for you.
Whether you are new to yoga or have an established
practice, you will receive clear, detailed guidance and
encouragement in honing proper form to gain the most from
your yoga program.
The physical benefits of yoga contribute to heightened
vitality and flexibility. The meditative aspects of yoga calm
stress and create greater mental and emotional clarity.
Each yoga program is designed by certified yoga therapist
and teacher Brian Scrivener (when necessary, in consultation
with registered physiotherapist Claudia Scrivener) to ensure
that your therapeutic yoga practise is safe and effective.
Hands On Therapeutic Yoga is an effective mode of recovery
and renewal by itself, and especially when used in conjunction
with our whole range of therapeutic techniques and services.
BRIAN SCRIVENER is a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Practitioner, having
completed training in yoga philosophy, visual-intuitive assessment of the energetic aspects
of the body and the powerful use of specifically selected, assisted and sustained asanas. He
is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. His lifelong passion for
Yoga has unfolded through more than 20 years of practice and teaching. Trained in the
Iyengar method with Lindsay Whalen in the 1980s in Vancouver, he took his teacher
training with Iyengar national certification assessor Richard Schachtel in Seattle. He has
been inspired by workshops with such yoga luminaries as Angela Farmer and Dona
Holleman. His first inkling of the importance of movement in enhancing the physical body
came while studying contemporary dance with Synergy, led by Linda Rubin, at the
Western Front Lodge in Vancouver during the mid-1970s.
