Therapeutic Yoga for Lasting Recovery

Therapeutic exercise can be a key element in recovery from
many physical injuries and chronic conditions. The beauty of
yoga as a medium for therapeutic exercise is that it combines
targeted asanas (postures) that focus on toning specific
muscles and other soft tissue with yoga's well known mood
elevating attributes.

All this in a form of exercise that you can do by yourself, in the
comfort of your home, without cumbersome equipment.

The physical benefits of yoga -- increasing flexibility,
strengthening muscles and toning internal organs -- all
contribute to a heightened feeling of buoyancy. The meditative
aspects of yoga calm stress and create greater mental clarity.
Combining them optimizes the flow of subtle energies
throughout the body, invigorating you, and enhancing your
constitutional health.

Each program is designed by certified yoga therapist and
teacher Brian Scrivener in consultation with registered
physiotherapist Claudia Scrivener to ensure your exercise
routine is medically sound and effective.

Hands On Therapeutic Yoga is not a pre-programmed, packaged
approach to therapeutic exercise. Instead it creates a safe,
supportive, meditative crucible which helps you to use your yoga
sadhana, or practice, to serve the current needs of your body in
this moment.

Your customized program will blend deeply held asanas
(postures) with focused breathwork and guided visualization to
aid you in developing deep awareness of your own body.
Whether you are new to yoga or have an established practice,
you will receive clear, detailed guidance and encouragement in
honing proper form to gain the most benefit from your routine.

Hands On Therapeutic Yoga is an effective mode of recovery and
renewal by itself, and especially when used in conjunction with
our whole range of therapeutic techniques and services.

BRIAN SCRIVENER'S lifelong passion for Yoga has unfolded through more than 20 years
of practice and teaching. Trained in the Iyengar method with Lindsay Whalen in the 1980s
in Vancouver, he took his teacher training with Iyengar national certification assessor
Richard Schachtel in Seattle. He has been inspired by workshops with such yoga luminaries
as Angela Farmer and Dona Holleman. His first inkling of the importance of movement in
enhancing the physical body came while studying contemporary dance with Synergy, led
by Linda Rubin, at the Western Front Lodge in Vancouver during the mid-1970s.
   Brian is also a certified
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Practitioner, having completed
training in yoga philosophy, visual-intuitive assessment of the energetic aspects of the body
and the powerful use of specifically selected, assisted and sustained asanas.
