Brian Scrivener holds a B.A. & M.A. in English Literature, part of
a lifelong passion for the power of words to both inform and
transform. He has been facilitating individual expression through the
written word and image as a writer, editor and publisher since 1978.
His authors include prominent Canadian figures such as Rick
Hansen, Thomas Berger, and Mike Harcourt, as well as First Nations
groups.
Brian has co-authored two books and edited hundreds more
books and other documents over his years in book publishing.
Former Editorial Director at Raincoast Books (the folks who brought
you Harry Potter in Canada), earlier in his career he was Acquisitions
Editor at The University of British Columbia Press, Senior Editor at
Opus Sports Books and Editor-in-Chief of The Scrivener, the official
publication of The Society of Notaries Public of B.C.
Brian designed the website architecture for the website of the
College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia. He has consulted
and created marketing materials for companies and non-profits.
He has taught writing and communication at Canadian universities,
and in workshops. He has been a member of the executives of the
Association of Canadian University Presses, the Association of Book
Publishers of B.C. and the Canada-Pacific Book Publishing Society.
He was founding president of the West Coast Book Prize Society,
which established the B.C. Book Prizes.
Brian is a member of the Editors' Association of Canada. He is also
a certified yoga therapist and yoga teacher, and owns and manages
Hands On Health clinic with his wife, Claudia, a physiotherapist. He
currently lives on acreage near Kamloops with his family and far too
many horses.
